The World of Wind Atlases – Wind Atlases of the World

Wind Atlas for the Gulf of Suez 1991-2001

The Wind Atlas for the Gulf of Suez is the result of an investigation of the climatic wind conditions along the Gulf of Suez, Egypt.

The aim of the Wind Atlas for the Gulf of Suez has been to establish the meteorological basis for the assessment of the wind energy resources along the Gulf of Suez and in the northern Red Sea.

The main objective has been to provide suitable data for evaluating the potential wind power output from large electricity-producing wind turbine installations.

The Wind Atlas further provides data and some guidelines for the meteorological aspects of the detailed siting of large and small wind turbines and wind farms.

The investigation was conducted from March 1991 to the date of publication by the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) and Risø DTU under the sponsorship of the Danish and Egyptian governments.

Map to the left shows the 13 main wind atlas stations (yellow symbols) as well as several other met. stations in the region (click on map to enlarge).
